Verification call

Also called: Load verification, Invoice verification, Verification

Definition

A verification call is a factor's direct check with a broker or shipper confirming that a load happened, what is owed, and that payment will go to the factor.

On a verification call you confirm the load number, the carrier of record, pickup and delivery dates, the rate and any accessorials, that delivery happened without a claim, that your NOA is on file, and the expected pay date. Many brokers now answer through portals or email, but the questions are the same.

The rule that makes verification work: use contact details from your own records or the broker's published directory, never the phone number or email on the documents your client sent. A fraudster who forged the rate con can also answer the phone listed on it.

Verification is one step in the carrier vetting checklist and the main defense against fake rate confirmations.
