Free carrier and payment-fraud tools for freight brokers

To be upfront: CarrierKYC's product, Verified Payee, is built and priced for freight factoring companies, not brokers. If you need carrier onboarding software for a brokerage, tools like Highway, RMIS and MyCarrierPortal are built for you, and our comparison pages describe them fairly.

Our free tools and guides are open to anyone, and brokers face many of the same impostors factors do: fake carriers, hijacked real ones and bank-change emails that redirect payment.

What we hear, and what helps

  1. 01

“Is this carrier who they say they are?”

Run the USDOT or MC number through the free carrier risk check: authority age, revocations, insurance, out-of-service orders, and other carriers sharing the same phone, email or address. Then read how to tell if a carrier is legit.

  2. 02

“A carrier emailed new bank details. How do I know it's real?”

Follow the remit-change checklist: call back on a number you already had, never one in the email, and confirm with the carrier's factor if an NOA is on file.

  3. 03

“Two factors sent NOAs for the same carrier. Who do I pay?”

Read two NOAs, one carrier and the notice of assignment guide, then talk to counsel before you pay either.

  4. 04

“Is the MC number going away with Motus?”

Not yet. Retiring MC numbers needs a future rulemaking. See is the MC number going away? and FMCSA Motus explained.

Why a factor-focused site has broker tools

The same fraud reaches both of you. A hijacked carrier that books your load can factor the invoice too, and a fake bank-change email can be aimed at a broker's payables team as easily as at a factor. Free tools that help you spot it make the whole chain safer, including for the factors we build for.

Where to look for broker onboarding software

Our comparison pages describe the broker-side vendors from their own published material, with what each is best at: Highway, RMIS, MyCarrierPackets, Carrier Assure and Carrier411.

Working with your carriers' factors

When a carrier factors its invoices, the NOA tells you to pay the factor, and a release letter tells you when that stops. If you pay through Triumph's network, Triumph says brokers and factors can check the factor of record in its portal. When in doubt, call the factor on a number you looked up yourself. See double brokering from the factor's side for how factors see these disputes.

Frequently asked questions

Can brokers buy Verified Payee?

Not today. Verified Payee is built and priced for factoring companies. The free tools are open to everyone.

Is the carrier risk check really free?

Yes. It reads public FMCSA data, and each fact shows its source dataset and an as-of date. Results aren't published as indexable pages.

Can I check a broker as well as a carrier?

Yes. Brokers have USDOT and MC numbers too. See how to verify a freight broker for what to look at beyond the record.

For factoring companies

Stop paying the wrong account.
