Revocation

Also called: Authority revocation, Revoked authority, Involuntary revocation

Definition

Revocation is FMCSA's cancellation of a company's operating authority, voluntary or involuntary, after which it may not operate for hire under that authority unless reinstated.

Involuntary revocations and suspensions usually follow a lapsed filing. If a carrier fails to keep required insurance on file, FMCSA revokes or suspends its authority, and FMCSA's data also records suspensions for a cancelled BOC-3. A broker faces suspension when its bond or trust is drawn below $75,000 and isn't restored within 7 business days of FMCSA's notice. Registrants can also ask for voluntary revocation and can later apply for reinstatement.

The record moved with Motus. The legacy Revocation dataset was last refreshed on 2026-05-14; revocations and suspensions since then appear in the Motus RevokeSuspend data.

For a factor, a client's revocation means loads after that date were hauled without authority, and an insurance lapse often comes first. A debtor broker's suspension is a credit event. Reinstated authority keeps its docket, but judge its age with the gap in mind.
