# Verification call

**Definition:** A verification call is a factor's direct check with a broker or shipper confirming that a load happened, what is owed, and that payment will go to the factor.

Also called: Load verification, Invoice verification, Verification. Category: Factoring.

On a verification call you confirm the load number, the carrier of record, pickup and delivery dates, the rate and any accessorials, that delivery happened without a claim, that your NOA is on file, and the expected pay date. Many brokers now answer through portals or email, but the questions are the same.

The rule that makes verification work: use contact details from your own records or the broker's published directory, never the phone number or email on the documents your client sent. A fraudster who forged the rate con can also answer the phone listed on it.

> **Red flag: Red flags** A broker contact reachable only on a mobile number or a free email account. A broker who says a different carrier hauled the load ([double brokering](https://carrierkyc.com/glossary/double-brokering)), or that another factor's NOA is on file ([double factoring](https://carrierkyc.com/glossary/double-factoring)). Pressure to skip verification because the load is urgent.
