# CarrierKYC vs RMIS (Truckstop): onboarding for brokers vs factors

Facts last verified 2026-10-19.

RMIS is one of the established carrier onboarding systems for freight brokers. Truckstop bought it in 2021, rmis.com now redirects to Truckstop, and the product is sold as Truckstop RMIS carrier onboarding: collect documents, verify qualifications, assess performance and monitor compliance.

CarrierKYC is not an onboarding packet or a compliance monitor. It verifies the two facts a factor needs before money moves (the applicant controls the carrier, and the bank account is the carrier's) and re-verifies every payee change before the next ACH.

## What RMIS does

Truckstop's page describes RMIS as "a centralized platform for storing and managing all carrier-related documents," with automatic alerts for "changes in status or documentation." Its fraud controls include blocking suspicious IP addresses, an RMIS ID plus zip code and emailed code at registration, flags when contact details differ between RMIS and DOT records, multi-factor authentication and alerts on calls from VoIP numbers.

When Truckstop announced the deal in March 2021, FreightWaves reported that RMIS' main product was carrier onboarding for large brokerages, often connected by API to their own transportation management systems. RMIS Lite starts at $340 a month, and RMIS Pro, priced by quote, adds custom branding, business rules and "extensive TIN matching."

## Identity: similar tools, different question

Truckstop says RMIS "identity verification badges confirm a carrier's verified identity through real-time selfie comparisons with government-issued IDs." That is real identity proofing, aimed at a broker deciding whether to give a carrier a load.

Verified Payee also uses an ID and selfie, and it matches that person to the officers on the carrier's FMCSA record. Truckstop doesn't publish whether its badge is matched to the officer list. For a factor, the point is to confirm that the person who will control the payee details is someone entitled to.

## The bank account is the gap for factors

TIN matching confirms that a business name and tax ID go together. It doesn't show who owns a bank account. RMIS's public page doesn't describe bank-account ownership checks or a hold on remit-to changes, which is where a factor's money is actually lost. Our [remit-change checklist](https://carrierkyc.com/tools/remit-change-checklist) shows the controls we think every factor should have, with or without software.

## When RMIS (Truckstop) is the better choice

Pick RMIS if you are a broker or shipper onboarding a large carrier network and need packets, insurance certificates, compliance rules and ongoing monitoring in one place, tied into your TMS. It does far more onboarding and monitoring work than CarrierKYC, and its identity badges and registration controls already cover part of the impersonation problem for brokers.

## Frequently asked questions

### Who owns RMIS?

Truckstop. It announced the acquisition of RMIS (Registry Monitoring Insurance Services) in March 2021. The product is now sold as Truckstop RMIS carrier onboarding, and rmis.com redirects to Truckstop's site.

### Does RMIS verify identity?

Yes, according to Truckstop: its identity verification badges use real-time selfie comparisons with government-issued IDs. Truckstop doesn't publish whether that identity is matched to the carrier's officers on FMCSA records.

### What does RMIS cost?

Truckstop says RMIS Lite starts at $340 a month. RMIS Pro is priced by quote. CarrierKYC's founding pricing is a free 60-day pilot, then $399 a month with 20 verified onboardings included, $25 for each extra onboarding, and payee-change re-verifications included. See [pricing](https://carrierkyc.com/pricing).

### Can a factoring company use RMIS?

Truckstop's onboarding page addresses brokers and shippers. A factor could use parts of it, but it isn't built around funding clients, NOAs or payee changes.
