# CarrierKYC vs Carrier Assure: carrier scores vs payee verification

Facts last verified 2026-10-19.

Carrier Assure scores trucking companies. Its site describes "carrier compliance software" that grades carriers on performance using FMCSA and SAFER data and its own algorithms, so shippers and freight brokers can choose carriers and avoid ones with "indicators of double brokering, poor visibility, and instability."

CarrierKYC doesn't score carriers. It verifies two facts for a factor: the person onboarding controls the carrier, and the bank account belongs to the carrier. A score describes the company's record. Verified Payee checks the person and the account in front of you.

| | CarrierKYC | Carrier Assure |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Built for | Small US freight factoring companies | Shippers and freight brokers |
| Core output | A Verified Payee case file per carrier | A letter-grade carrier score and reports |
| Verifies the applicant's identity | Yes: ID and selfie, matched to FMCSA officer records | Not published |
| Verifies bank-account ownership | Yes: account holder matched to the carrier's legal name | Not published |
| Re-verifies remit-to and bank changes | Yes, before the next ACH goes out | Not published |
| Data behind it | Identity, bank-ownership, FMCSA and UCC checks | FMCSA and SAFER data, tracking reliability, connected entities, user reports (vendor claim) |
| Community fraud reports | No | Yes, SuspectCarrier reports |
| Pricing | Free 60-day pilot, then $399/mo with 20 onboardings; $25 per extra; re-verifications included | Free individual tier; Premium $149/mo; Enterprise by quote |
| Best for | Factors who need to know who they are paying | Choosing among many carriers quickly |

## What Carrier Assure does

Carrier Assure Inc. is still operating: on 2026-10-19 its site was live, with current pricing and a free registration. Its free Individual tier lets you submit unlimited SuspectCarrier reports, Premium is $149 a month for unlimited carrier scores and reports, and Enterprise adds API access and analytics by quote.

FreightWaves reported in August 2025 that the Carrier Assure score now appears inside Descartes MyCarrierPortal. It draws on business stability, DOT safety performance, inspection trends, insurance and authority status, tracking reliability and relationships between connected entities. Carrier Assure's site also lists RMIS and project44 among its partners.

> **Note** Carrier Assure's own site states that its performance score "is not an indicator of safety" and asks users to verify data themselves. That's a fair, honest disclaimer, and it applies to any score.

## A score on the company vs proof about the person

A hijacked carrier keeps its clean record. Transflo, citing Highway's Q1 2026 data, wrote that about half of freight fraud was committed by carriers with clean records. A strong score tells you the company has behaved well. It can't tell you whether the person emailing your team is an officer of that company, or who owns the account on their voided check.

Verified Payee answers those two questions directly, then re-checks them whenever the bank account or ownership changes. See [carrier identity theft](https://carrierkyc.com/guides/carrier-identity-theft) for how takeovers of clean carriers work.

## Using a score in a factor's file

A score is a reasonable triage tool when you are deciding which applicants deserve a closer look. Pair it with the free [carrier risk check](https://carrierkyc.com/tools/carrier-check) for authority age, revocations and shared contact details, and with identity and bank-ownership checks before the first ACH.

## When Carrier Assure is the better choice

Pick Carrier Assure if you are a shipper or broker choosing among many carriers and want a quick letter grade, performance signals and community reports in one place. Its Premium plan is published at $149 a month, less than CarrierKYC, and scoring a large carrier pool is a different job from verifying one client's payee. A factor that mainly wants a fast risk read on prospects may find it useful too.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Carrier Assure still operating?

Yes. On 2026-10-19 its site was live with current plans (a free Individual tier, Premium at $149 a month, and Enterprise by quote) and a 2026 copyright.

### Does a good Carrier Assure score mean a carrier is safe to fund?

No, and Carrier Assure says as much: its site states the performance score "is not an indicator of safety." A score describes the company's record, not whether the person applying controls it or owns the bank account.

### Can factoring companies use Carrier Assure?

Nothing on its site prevents it, but its pages describe shippers and freight brokers as the audience. If you use it, treat the score as one input alongside identity and bank-ownership checks.
